I had a Tempur pillow for almost 8 years and bought it as a replacement. It's fairly adjustable and definitely cooler than the Tempur when sleeping. It will still be a warmer pillow because it's a hard foam, so I'd say it's colder than real memory foam, but warmer than shredded memory foam. The hardness I would call spot on, all those "too soft" or "too hard" are useless personal opinions. You sink into the pillow but not too deep (about 1.5 to 2 inches) so that your neck is fully supported. I've had it for about a month now so I don't know if it will last long but for 1/3 the price of a Tempur pillow it really only needs to last 2-3 years. Now for the foam. myself. For the first two days it had a "chemical" smell of traditional polyurethane, but it wasn't very strong. The smell was localized and didn't fill the room or anything. I took it out of the pillowcase, washed the cover, separated the 3 layers of foam and let it air out for 24 hours and everything was fine. Unfortunately, the foam is not real memory foam. It's clearly polyurethane, not elastomeric polyurethane (which is why they charge so much for TempurPedic material). Because of its composition it's automatically a colder material, so it's really inaccurate for products to advertise that they're colder than Tempur material but are real memory foam. Same goes for beds, always ask/check the density of the memory foam as this will tell you if you are getting true elastomeric polyurethane. Bottom line for a pillow it doesn't matter and I prefer a lighter and cooler material. This pillow gives me a memory foam feel, firm support and is softer than my Tempur pillow. I haven't had any trouble sleeping or waking up in pain so this is a really good pillow for the price.
