This is a combination smart watch and sports watch. Smartwatch features aren't as smart as Google or Apple products, but I still get notifications, text messages, and caller ID synced to my phone, which is the main feature I've come to expect from a smartwatch. A full week of battery life on a single charge is way better than Apple and Google. The sports functions are significantly more precise and well thought out than those of Apple and Google. I use this watch to track my runs and bike rides. Most of the time I don't even use my Garmin bike computer as the watch is pretty accurate, although I still use the bike computer for turn-by-turn directions on some routes. This Garmin watch also looks better (to me) than an Apple or Google watch. I really don't see the point of buying Apple or Google watches through Garmin (at least not yet). I had issues with the first Garmin vivoactive 3 I received. For some reason it didn't sync well with my smartphone and only half of my notifications got to my watch. After struggling with the watch for a couple of weeks I returned it (no questions asked) for a new one and the second watch works great. I've read on the Garmin forums that notification syncing issues are very common with this product. My advice: don't mess with your watch or you'll lose. If the sync doesn't work, just return it for a new one.
