I was looking for a new microwave not because my old one was dead but simply because I wanted something bigger and more powerful. Performance, price and size is what I was looking for in this oven. But I kept reading the occasional bad reviews about it. They ranged from the fact that he died a few months later to various things related to the noise and the way he worked. I decided to go ahead and address some of the issues that other customers had raised. Things I read in other reviews: 1. It makes a loud buzz. It makes a bit of a buzzing noise while it's working, but if you've never owned a microwave you know that all microwaves make noise when they're working. The stove I had before might have been a bit taller, but since this one is so much more powerful, it doesn't really surprise me that it's just a tad louder. It's no different than what I use at work to warm up my lunch. If you want a quiet oven, you probably need a convection oven. This is what the microwave sounds like to me, maybe someone had quieter ones, but it sounds normal to me.2. When you pull the door handle, the oven slides. That's right. It only seems to happen when empty and it slides just an inch across the smooth table top.3. It's cheaply made, and when you press the numbers on the front, the entire panel flexes. When I press the buttons on the front it doesn't move at all. Even the buttons themselves don't bend, but it works.4. My oven died after x monthsA. You know that for just $5 you can buy a 4-year Fair Trade Guarantee on it, right? If you're concerned about durability, this seems like a good option. It comes with no manual, nothing! I have instructions I don't get paid for reviews. When I'm happy with something I write a review like I'm happy, if what I bought sucks then not so much. This oven seems to do everything I wanted it to. It's a 1.2 cubic foot oven and has 1100 watts of power to quickly process whatever I put in it. The tanning element on top is just the icing on the cake. I still don't know how much I'm going to use the roaster because at first I thought about putting a whole chicken in it, microwaving it, and then roasting it. but then I thought about how much chicken spits in the oven. I'm not sure I'm ready to do that much cleaning every time I cook. In any case, it's nice to have that option. There are preset browning buttons that allow you to microwave a certain percentage and then finish the dish in the browner. This makes it a little easier to use since you don't have to do all the math and programming yourself. It's still pretty early for my purchase, but it seems like a pretty good deal to me. This will be the first Emerson microwave I have ever owned, but I have read reports from other people claiming to have owned an Emerson microwave for 30 years. So at least I know they have some experience with these things. All in all I would call it a buy. If it starts smoking in the next few months I might change my mind, but I got a fair trade guarantee so they'll replace it for free anyway. UPDATE: I've had this stove for two years now and it just died, no power, no noise, no light. I've never had a microwave die in less than 2 years. I will NOT replace it with another Emerson. Has worked well for 2 years with daily use but I expect 10+ years without a microwave.
