Good screen, poor performance.

To be honest I am confused by this product. I usually only write reviews for products that I think are particularly good, but I had to make an exception for this tablet because I was just very confused about how it was launched. I bought it because I only use it to watch YouTube or Netflix while doing chores like washing dishes. Within that very tight window of use, it works as advertised, which is the only reason I didn't return it. It's slow going, to the point where it's incomprehensible to me that it could ever be released as a working product. Netflix app usually takes 30 seconds or more to download. 10-15 seconds to download YouTube app. Oh, don't make me try to switch between books on the Kindle app. There's also often a few seconds delay between touching the screen and registering, so trying to rewind a video can be painful. Yesterday I made the fatal mistake of downloading Netflix without manually closing the Reddit app - turns out the two apps open were no good; The Bluetooth audio on my headphones dropped every few seconds until I figured out the problem and closed Reddit. My best guess is that the OS may have been lighter when the tablet was first released and has been stuck with updates since? That's really the only plausible scenario for me; I haven't seen this kind of lag since the early days of Windows XP (and even then only at boot time). I ended up abandoning the tablet because, for the price, you can't beat the screen size and quality, and it's okay to spend a minute or two waiting for Netflix to download and deal with a laggy UI to watch videos download and then let it run for a while an hour while I do business. Due to its fantastic battery life (at least compared to my laptop; I've never had another tablet to compare it to) it's also perfect to use as an e-reader on a plane. As long as you only need minimal device interactions, this is a great value. If you expect to interact with the tablet frequently, look elsewhere.
