Review on FEELWORLD Monitor Waveform External 1920X1200 by Michael Adams

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Bright, light and inexpensive

So there's a 400-pound gorilla in the field monitor world. Atmos - Ninja. And don't get me wrong, they have a great product that works exactly as it should and does it well. However, it costs almost as much as most rigs it's attached to. Having already spent $10,000 just on lenses for my Canon R5, I just can't spend more on something as simple as a field monitor. Besides, video is only a small part of my hobby. So I started at the bottom with a basic 5" display, more suited to a car than a monitor, and worked with it for a while. And while it worked and worked well. it's even out of the sun in any glare Visible from afar.So I was looking for something better but not better for the price of a cardioid.I never liked small 5" monitors as they are the size of a cellphone and if you are holding a heavy camera you can't get close to it hold enough to really see the screen and frame. So the 7" screen is really the biggest screen you can see that isn't too big and gets in the way of your setup. "Remember" is one great alternative to ninja and does the same job as ninja but maybe not packaged as neatly and shiny as it is, it's incredibly bright, weighs very little and uses sony FP batteries which you can buy everywhere has one e solid mount and can be easily manipulated and operated with one hand. Now you're going to drop some things with ambience, mostly visual build quality. Atmos looks regal and expensive (well, because it is), Feelworld certainly doesn't. It's made of plastic and has a glossy screen (you'll need a matte bezel to see it outside in the sun). It only works with Sony FP batteries, which would be great if I had anything to do with Sony. Luckily, Sony batteries are cheap, but I'd rather have a ninja-style internal battery so I don't have to carry an extra charger. Sony batteries, even the smallest, are still heavy and add to the weight of this monitor. There are a few more updates to the Atmos feature set, but I would never do all of that on one monitor. I can easily do all the functions in post-processing, easier and faster. The power connectors are firm and rigid, and are located in easy-to-reach places that don't get in your hands. The brightness is first class and easy to see in bright daylight (don't forget the matte overlay). The best part, however, is the cost. This is literally atmos' 16th prize. Having smashed a similar monitor by banging into a wall in the past, smashing something that costs a lot less will lessen the sting considerably. still arriving pros/cons Pros - Super affordable - Great brightness (easy to see during the day) - Comes with all cables and accessories (except battery) - Works with regular Sony FP batteries (any brand or otherwise) - Tons of adjustment options are missing anyway . Cons - while it holds up well, it feels cheap and probably won't survive a good fall to the floor - only works on Sony batteries (you might think it's a pro, but I'm into Canon) - Glossy screen (basic to fix with matte overlays - Doesn't actually come with a battery, you'll need to buy your own Sony FP battery and charger (+/- $20.00) Overall, this is a great alternative to incredibly expensive screens and works just as well with a few lags. For what I've invested in my rig and accessories I honestly couldn't give a Ninja that much of my hard-earned money for something as simple as a basic monitor. Whatever it is, definitely a great solution to one affordable price!

Pros
  • Precise exposure and focus
Cons
  • So far, so good

(-0.5) Usable, but dim for some situation at this price point.
