Review on πŸ”§ Dorman 924-600 Automatic Transmission Shift Repair Kit for Cadillac Models: OE FIX for Enhanced Performance by Stephen Hobbs

Good grip but poor retaining clip design

Purchased for my 2004 Cadillac SRX V6 AWD. GM discontinued the shifter for 4WD SRX, so I had to "fix" my original one with this Dorman part. The overall design is good, but the final piece that holds it all together, the C-clip, is poorly designed. I was concerned about this after reading another review that mentioned poor clip design, but I had no choice and had to use this part for a repair. I installed it fairly easily and decided to curl the C-clip around the edge a bit to make sure it didn't come off. Well it lasted all day and then showed up when I parked in front of the store the next day. I was in a bind. I had to crawl under the car and manually put the transmission in park. Then I could start the car. Then I had to put the parking brake on and crawl under the car to put it in gear and get home. I made it home but what a pain in the ass. I took the whole thing apart and ended up welding a washer to the end instead of reusing the piece of crap with the clip. Now it will never fall again. So beware of a bad C-Clip. I suggest welding it so it will last a long time and not put you in an awkward position like mine did.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
