Review on Effortlessly Elevate Your Gear with the Suspenz Ceiling Hoister! by Jay Buford

Excellent in kit; Partial solution

This product is well made and works very well but be prepared for a lot of adjustment and adjustment. This is more of a do-it-yourself kit than a walkthrough. The first thing you need to know is that if you follow the setup diagram you will need horizontal overhead space or the kayak will not lower all the way down. I changed the setting to create more horizontal space. Second, I didn't use a 2x4. This allowed me to bring the kayak closer to the ceiling. And third, I didn't use metal buckles. As you can imagine there was a lot of trial and error, buying custom parts and a lot of work, but the result is very rewarding. Also, the locking mechanism is not easy to use. I stand on the ladder and use my gloves to unlock it (press and hold) and lower the kayak. When the kayak is lowered I don't pull an extra line. Instead, I fold it and secure it in climbing anchors that I attach to a piece of metal. It's out of the way so you can service the garage when the kayak isn't around.

Pros
  • holds up to 60 lbs.
Cons
  • A newer model could have been chosen
