For most parameters, it is exactly in the middle between inexpensive DSLRs and soap dishes. It will not replace a DSLR, at least until good optics appear for it. But if you are ready to put up with more serious sizes and weight, then no soap box can compete with it. Pros: 1. Excellent auto-mode (quietly trust it except for difficult conditions like low light, etc.). Very low percentage of marriage even with a minimum of effort and preparation. 2. Auto focus speed and continuous shooting. Running kids are not a problem. Who had / have children 2-5 years old, they will understand me. 3. Really small and light, even with 10-30 zoom. 4. Very well tailored. Causes an unconscious desire to twirl in the hands and press the buttons. 5. Price. Different cons: 1. Optics. The 10-30 whale lens is unsharp, not fast and frightens with distortion at a wide angle. Compared to any whale, the younger DSLR is an order of magnitude worse. 2. Uncomfortable grip. Too small, straight and devoid of protrusions. 3. All the bells and whistles, from the adapter for adult Nikon glasses to the hand strap, are either not on sale or cost like the camera itself.
