Review on πŸ“± BLU Z5 GSM Unlocked Dual Sim - Cyan: An Efficient and Versatile Mobile Experience by Robert Toomey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect for what I needed it for!

Perfect for what I need it for! For some reason (it doesn't make sense to my brother haha) I wanted to keep my old home phone number in South Florida. He first moved from landline to Vonage and then to Ooma for 20 years. I switched to the free plan for Ooma (only played with taxes, which came out to about $5 a month). Then I decided to go on a journey to transfer it from Ooma to Google Voice. After about 16 days it was finally ported to Ting! This led me to this phone. I was looking at Revain for a cheap unlocked GSM phone to use with the Ting. That fits the bill. I decided to shoot and did what I needed to. It took me a while to search through Revain a bit to figure out what it was because the instructions are pretty much useless. Used nail clippers (I don't have nails haha) to open it. To do this in the lower right corner (like in my 2nd picture) just pry open the groove and eventually it will fall apart. You'll probably need to bypass this to get rid of everything. After I then determined the correct position for the SIM card (last photo), everything worked. I tried the top first thinking that's where it went, but it has to go all the way. It works great with Ting! By the way, they have great customer service. For me that was the cheapest way to port a number. I took a picture of the battery discharge. It only goes in one direction. I saw another question about using the flashlight. To do this, you can access it from the menu or by long-pressing the 0 key with the icon. To turn it on, press and hold the phone icon on the right with a slash (and the very small power icon I just noticed). The volume sounds very loud. Can't comment on the battery as I've only called once to confirm my number with Google Voice. This phone is perfect for kids to keep in touch with their parents. I think I'll keep it as a backup phone and for traveling (if that ever happens again) overseas. Lackluster instructions aside, overall it seems like a great phone for what it is.

Could not activate. Tried 3 different sum cards and non of them worked. Don't waste your money.
