Review on πŸ”₯ Syba 5 Bay Tool Less Tray Hot Swappable External USB 3.0 Enclosure for SATA III RAID HDD - Windows MacOS Compatible by Nick Moody

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well, at least the 3rd one from the new provider deserves it!

Last week I gave up 7+ external drives everywhere. It was actually a power outage that caused 5 drives to fail. Let's make it worse! I'm an IT professional with over 40 years of computer experience and I say ALWAYS BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP your data and I couldn't follow my word. Well! I'm also an audio engineer and I record about 24 to 32 tracks. 24 concerts over the summer in the last 10 years. Luckily they were on discs that didn't die. So I needed a backup plan for about 30TB of original concert files and mixes. I decided to try a RAID array to ensure my data is safe and secure. So I ordered 2-bay RAID 0 and 1 for my RAM. The array arrived and I loaded two new 8TB 7200RPM 3.5 drives. Followed the (minimal) instructions and voila! It failed to format and left me with two almost unusable drives. It took me about 24 hours to get the required software and have the drives repaired. He returned to Revain less than 24 hours after his arrival! Then I tried another larger model from the same manufacturer. It was 4 bays with no raid. It arrived 24 hours from the 1st. I unpacked it, it looked good! eSATA and USB3.0. I loaded 2 now working 8TB hard drives. eSATA connection plugged in, turned on and...nothing. I plugged in the USB and wow it worked but not at the speed I wanted. Packed, sent back to Revain. (I love their return policy) I ordered a different array, a different manufacturer, this time I went for the Syba 5 Bay Tool hot swappable 2.5" 3.5" SATA III RAID hard drive Decided Less Tray with external USB 3.0 enclosure. It arrived last Saturday, it's been 6 days since this whole episode started. With trepidation I unwrapped the array, it was a solid block of metal that felt solid. Not plastic like the other two. I loaded the drives plus 3 more into the device, plugged in the eSATA connection, turned on the device and... Finally a happy ending! It worked great and I feel relaxed! Of course I'll have to get back to you in about 6 months and let you know how things are. Wish me good luck.
