I broke our old stainless steel kettle so I decided to replace it with a glass kettle because it's so clean. The lower heating element is made of metal. The lid and splash guard are made of plastic, but at least they don't come into too much contact with water. First I took the fender off but it interfered with closing the lid so I had to put it back on. Shortly after boiling, the kettle switches off automatically, but only when the lid is closed. I like to use it with the lid open so as not to heat the plastic, but then I have to turn it off manually, which is a downside of our old kettle. The blue light is surprisingly pleasant, I like it. Now that I appreciate the benefits of glass and can see water, I don't think I'll go back to stainless steel. I got the white one because it was on sale at the time and it looks classy and comes with a white cord. I also liked the colors green and orange - anything is better for me than boring black. The top of the handle is attached to the rim of the glass with a plastic clip so I can see how fragile it can be like some others. written down. This is probably true of any glass teapot. I try to support the soil when watering a full pot to relieve stress. We have had this Ovente for over 2 years now and overall we are very happy with it. Would buy again!
