. and I don't even want to find something to criticize about this enchanted "pancake." Absolutely. You can complain about small geometry distortions, infrequent focus misses, and so on and so forth. Boring bores may notice the difficulties of manual focusing, "all-inclusive-for-free" lovers may complain about the lack of a stub, and you can complain about all of those things, too. You are aware of what? Do something else. Does manual focusing present any difficulties with the lens? Because of this, before you make the purchase, you need to be aware that the lens is not brand new. You need a manual; there is a SEA of optics for you to explore; feel free to dive in as deeply as you desire. The autofocus of this lens works really well for everyday activities, which is, as far as I can tell, what the lens was designed for in the first place. It would be disrespectful to even mutter about the stub for that amount of money given how well the glass works in terms of the image, but it works brilliantly. And foolish. "Stabilizers" in older versions are still useless poultices, but ones that actually work begin in an entirely separate engineering and price category. For my trip to China that lasted for more than a month, the only photographic equipment I brought with me was this lens and an older Canon EOS 400D. To put it mildly, it was an experiment to see how I feel when using only one 40mm lens and not even the most recent camera model. And, as you know, the experiment was the very thing that, first of all, steered me toward fixes and, second of all, demonstrated the astounding UNIVERSALITY of this glass. They videotaped absolutely everything, and the quality of the finished product was consistent no matter what. Whatever your heart wishes, as long as there is ability and patience, you may paint it, be it a landscape, a portrait, or a genre. And all of this with a relatively small footprint. Even though it's been more than a year since I left Canon, I will always look back on this lens with fondness.
