I've had the Palette+ for almost a year now and I'm impressed. Physically, the Palette+ is probably the most well thought out consumer product I've seen. From the glossy, car-quality paint finish to the thoughtfully detailed interior, it's clear that a lot of attention has been paid to the design. Once calibrated for your printer (a fairly simple process), Palette+ makes good, clean and reliable connections with the included Chroma software. At first I had a lot of trouble getting strong joints that wouldn't fall apart, but in the end it was the humidity. Moving the filament spools to a sealed plastic box with a desiccant inside 100% solved this problem. The connections are now about as strong as the thread itself as it should be. This process is able to produce pleasing, sharp color changes in detail by using significantly more filament. There are options to reduce or even eliminate this, with the risk of color bleed. For printers that can move the printhead away from the platen, transitions can occur outside of the platen, somewhat reducing the transition plastic requirements. Detail in the photo above (four color face with no D20 marks) of the transitions as well as the resulting transition tower.
