It is important to understand how to use this device. A lot of the negative reviews about this and similar devices come from people saying they don't give consistent results, especially when painting cars. This is mainly due to using the wrong angle mode (Glossy requires 20 degrees) and the device not being completely flush with the surface. It must not be angled or have a gap to get consistent results. It's not so easy to swing the device around and take readings, you need to learn how to use it and spend some time on the process.
