Because I have various skin and scalp issues I can't count the soaps and shampoos I've tried over the years. My main concern is that my sensitive skin, especially my scalp, becomes easily inflamed and flaky. Even the best scalp shampoos could never completely cleanse my scalp, no matter how diligently I used them. When I bought this cleanser I only wanted to use it as a body wash because I couldn't imagine that something could make a huge difference to the scalp and also effectively cleanse the hair. But after just a few shampoos, my scalp isn't irritated or flaky for the first time in years. And my hair feels and looks great even without conditioner, plus it stays fresher longer. I have to apply it twice and use it more than regular shampoos, but it's not very expensive compared to other products for sensitive skin. Update: Since my first review I have had the opportunity to use this cleanser many times as a face/body wash as well as a shampoo. It foams a little - which is a minus for some - but I like the way the gel feels on my face. More importantly, some severely inflamed eczema-like spots have started to heal and my skin has less film left than other cleansers. For a more luxurious bath, I still prefer Shea Moisture Black African Soap Body Wash and will continue to indulge myself with this cleanser occasionally, but Phytoplex will be my cleanser of choice.
