A welcome change for crockery sets

After about 25 years of using the light set I have three plates left and two of them were more than half cracked. They are Pfaltsgraff stoneware and have served me well (literally) so I decided to use more stoneware. I chose this and another set from Gibson (Kyoto) because they were such a much needed replacement compared to the set I've been using for so long - and I'm so glad I did! I also chose them because there are no cups and saucers that just take up space in my closet. The dimensions are correct, the colors (blue on top, black on bottom) are wonderful, the matte finish and the bottom tabs are very close to the edges, making hand washing easier. No slipping with soapy water which is great. The bowls are also pretty cool with their shape and volume. But due to the shape, stacking all four together can exceed the height in some cabinets like mine. So two stacks instead of one. There were a few minor imperfections in the finish of some of the dishes and one of the smaller plates doesn't sit perfectly flat on a flat surface, but I don't mind. As for durability and whether the glaze will last another 25 years, it's too early to say. But they feel and sound solid, and since I only hand wash them and don't put them in the oven, I expect they will last for years.

Pros
  • Crockery
Cons
  • So far so good
