Review on Chamois Buttr Original Anti Chafe Cream by Ashton Dahmer

Chamois Butt'r is just a good anti-irritant and at a ridiculously high price. Target Up & UP Baby Lotion is an excellent anti-chafing product that is 1/15th the price, $2.89 for 20 ounces, and comes with a pump. Yes, this isn't a thick paste like Butt'r, it's a lotion that you put on yourself and quickly find out how many pumps it takes. I use 7 pumps for my genitals when cycling. Another nice feature of Up&Up Lotion is that you can wash your hands with plain water to remove the lotion instead of using soap and water like Chamois Butt'r. Also note that Up&UP has glycerin as the third ingredient and Chamois Butt'r has glycerin as the sixth ingredient, and glycerin is key to preventing the water emulsion from drying out. I tried Chamois Butt'r on a 50 mile bike and you could tell it had dried out long before I was done riding. Up & Up never dried out for me. Chamois Butt'r dries out on a long ride and naturally becomes uncomfortable. As a result, UP & Up Lotion may feel runny and watery compared to Butt'r, but with added glycerin it retains its lubricity much longer. The plasticizers that Butt'r add before the glycerin aren't as helpful in maintaining lubricity. The goal isn't to soften your skin, but to make it slippery, which is key to avoiding chafing. A tube of Jergens Moisturizing Lotion will probably work almost as well or even better than Chamois Butt'r since Glycerin is Jergens' second ingredient. Also note that J&J baby lotion Up & Up is very inferior as oil is 7th on the ingredients list (obviously not enough) although glycerin is also the 2nd ingredient so J&J doesn't have enough lubricity hence not all baby lotions same . . I've tried J&J Baby Lotion and can attest that it's better than nothing, but that's where it ends. So yes, any hand or body lotion is better than nothing. So if you forgot Up&Up, any skin lotion you can find is better than drying out.
