EDIT: 10 months later and it's still fantastic. Absolutely no problem to report. As I mentioned in my original review, a small amount of citric acid in the water cleans it very well. I bought it to replace a 1.8 liter muller double pane which was more expensive, exceptionally noisy (almost like a jet engine) and a cap. defective after 9 months (hinge defective - difficult to open and close). It's hard to beat $15. It's pretty quiet even at full boil and I love that the lid opens to a full 90*. It cooks fast enough for me - I haven't really made a comparison and timed it. It definitely looks a bit cheap as it's made out of glossy black plastic rather than glass, but I'm wondering if that helps keep the noise down. For people complaining about the discoloration of the bottom of the kettle, this is perfectly normal due to the minerals in the water and has nothing to do with this particular kettle. This should not cause any problems and should not change the taste of the water. To get rid of it, just take some citric acid. Put some in a kettle with water, bring to the boil, pour out and rinse thoroughly. Actually, it's nothing to worry about.
