This is a great value product and should provide all the extra outlets you might need. Yes, this is a lot more than a splitter that claims to offer the same protection, but you'll thank yourself the first time you have a major electrical problem on your line. A UPS is also superior to a surge protector in that it allows you to use your computer or other device when the power is off. The more sophisticated ones even have software that shuts down your computer in the event of a power outage, even when you're not around.
