Power Strip & Surge Protector

This is a great value product and should provide all the extra outlets you might need. However, be careful not to plug in too many devices that draw a lot of power: just because you now have space to plug in a lot of electrical devices doesn't mean the power line they're plugged into can handle the extra strain. Nowadays we use many devices (especially on our desks) that don't consume much power, like phones, small stereos; cell phone and bluetooth chargers etc. This strip is perfect for these purposes. But if you plug in a big-screen TV, an air conditioner or heater (or anything else that uses a lot of electricity) in addition to those other things, you're likely to trip a circuit breaker or worse, create a fire hazard. Also, don't rely too much on the surge protectors that come with this or any other power strip. If you want to protect your computer or other valuable and sensitive equipment, get a "UPS" (uninterruptible power supply). Depending on the size you need (which in turn depends on what you're protecting and how long you need power in the event of a power outage), you'll typically spend $100 or more on this device. Yes, this is a lot more than a splitter that claims to offer the same protection, but you'll thank yourself the first time you have a major electrical problem on your line. A UPS is also superior to a surge protector in that it allows you to use your computer or other device when the power is off. The more sophisticated ones even have software that shuts down your computer in the event of a power outage, even when you're not around.
