Review on Trofolastin Stretch Mark Prevention Cream by Beth Finlinson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Professional review with list of ingredients. It is best to ask your obstetrician before use.

This review is based solely on my professional opinion as a pharmacist. I have not used this product so I cannot comment on its effectiveness. I bought this product because it was the only one that showed statistically significant clinical results in preventing stretch marks. A Cochrane review did not assess the safety and long-term effects of trophistin. The primary endpoint was reduction in stretch mark formation. This product contains 2 long chain parabens, butylparaben and propylparaben, which CAN cause fetal harm. However, to be fair, we don't know if parabens cross the placenta. There is a planned study, but it is not yet completed. Maybe a funding problem. Additionally, trofolastin is considered a cosmetic product (despite being manufactured by Novartis) and is not regulated by the FDA. I wrote the ingredient list for others to reference as it is not available anywhere on the internet, not even on the Spanish Novartis website. I advise all pregnant women to check products, especially those from another country, carefully before using them. Below is a quote from the EWG website on parabens and a full list of ingredients. What is in brackets is my addition. "What's so bad about parabens? Previous research has shown that parabens can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, reproductive health problems, and cancer, depending on the form of the paraben. longer-chain parabens — butylparaben, isopropylparaben, isobutylparaben, and propylparaben — because studies have shown that they mimic the hormone estrogen and can disrupt the normal functioning of the endocrine system. Scientists do NOT know much about how the body reacts to it. parabens. But consumers don't have to wait for final decisions, they can (and should!) read labels carefully and vote with your wallet. By doing this, you protect your family and help shift the market towards safer products.
