I didn't give that up right away. I had one that was twice the price. It's taller but thinner. The foster cat could really knock him out. It scratched the bed so I put it together. I think the appeal is that it's so much broader and almost talkative. I stuck it in front of the bed and the problem was solved. I placed the thin foam from the pack under the base of the two posts to help them hold onto the wooden floor. They don't move much at all. I think it was helpful. I am happy about this post. Not sure if it will last as long as "double the price" but they also use it more. (Small foster cat likes it too)
