Review on Nikon 35mm f/1.8G Auto Focus Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras - Black (Model 2183) by Eh Shee Lay ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Mediocre goods, most likely I will not use.

I decided to write a review after a significant period of operation of this glass, since I did not understand it at first, and here is a summary: this is a lens of a very indefinite purpose - it is neither a portrait lens, nor a makrik, nor a reporter - neither this nor that! At the same time, on a DX-carcass with a good matrix (I have it on the D5000), it somehow copes with all these functions (unless, of course, instead of zooming, train the legs and the patience of others), but at best "good". One thing is clear: this glass is for shooting indoors, and only if, like me, you do not like flashes and profess shooting with natural light. Then, with straight arms and some skills, he will justify his price. If you use puff - God save you from this weirdo, save up some papers and take a decent zoom (any, except for the whale 18-55!)

Pros
  • Not in order of importance, but as I remember. 1. Autofocus motor is, it is fast and quiet 2. good build quality, reliability and equipment (although China) 3. Aperture: like "1.8" - really acceptable quality is from 2.5, and good in my opinion from 4 (subjectively) 4. Very short focusing distance (from 12 centimeters it already clings, it almost comes out macro) 5. Optimal in terms of versatility, fixing on DX cameras - allows you to squeeze at least something in the conditions of small rooms, and shoot a portrait (but with the need for a subsequent crop of the frame, because half a meter from the object it greatly distorts in the central zone, and if further , then the portrait comes out already "with a bust", which is not always necessary. 6. Cheap (took approx. 6.5) 7. Compact and lightweight - always with you.
Cons
  • Consider the price! 1. inaccurate autofocus, +/- up to 0.5 cm near (critical for a portrait). Sometimes it does not cling at all (worse than my 18-105). 2. terribly lathers at an aperture of more than 2.5, but you can try to use this to soften portraits;)) 3. I didn’t notice aberrations - my carcass removes them by itself, maybe they are. But peripheral distortion gives noticeable: the face closer than half a meter from the lens becomes pronounced puffiness, and this is the central zone of the frame! 4. explicit uncertainty of the functional purpose and scope of its use
