This is an SSD hard drive for laptop or desktop. It has a 2.5-inch form factor, making it suitable for most standard laptops. It also fits on any desktop. If you want to use it as an external drive, you need a drive case that can hold 2.5-inch drives. An SSD drive that stands for Solid State Drive, meaning it has no moving parts. This makes it faster than conventional mechanical drives and also more durable. The disadvantage of SSD drives is that they have a limited number of write cycles and can wear out faster than mechanical drives. SSDs are great for laptops because they speed things up. They are great for OS (operating system) and applications. The manual accompanies the drive but does not describe formatting, which is an important task with new drives. So far I've been happy with the performance of this Movespeed drive. I use it as a dedicated drive for my Lightroom catalog. I get great speeds using the directory from this drive for image access with no noticeable latency. I have no experience with the Movespeed brand so I don't know how well the drive will perform over time. For my purposes, however, the drive works quite well. Works fast and solid. I've installed many, many hard drives on my computers over the years and am very comfortable working with bare hard drives. If you've never installed a blank drive before, you may need to search Youtube for instructions on how to initialize, partition, and format the drive for first use. These instructions are not supplied with the drive. Overall, this drive is a good choice for laptop or desktop storage if you're comfortable with bare drives.
