Bought a Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB hard drive to replace a 4 year old Seagate Backup Plus 1TB hard drive that was running out of storage. The transfer rate when writing to the slim drive was terribly slow. When copying a 1.5 GB mp4 video file, the transfer speed fluctuates from 25 Mbps to 5 Mbps in a normal sine wave (5 second cycle) for the entire duration of the file transfer, with an average speed of 15 Mbps. When I tried to transfer a folder with 885GB of data according to Windows 10 File Explorer, it took over 12 hours. My old Seagate Backup Plus has an average transfer rate of 60-45Mbps for the same mp4 file. Very different from the new model and not something I want to live with. I believe if you're transferring smaller files, the transfer speed and the time it takes to copy the files might not be an issue. If you need to transfer large files I would suggest this is not the backup drive you need. Sorry Seagate but your thin drives are too slow for my needs so they are being returned for a refund. Thank you Revain for your return policy.
