This is the second audio extractor I have bought to try to send a 5.1 audio signal to my receiver. I decided to shell out some extra cash for this device as it claims to work with Roku devices and also claims to have tech support so I figured it would be the last of these purchases I would have to make. While the HDMI picture is sharp and the audio clear, it's only 2.1. I've tried changing the DIP switches, tried both optical and coax outputs, tried resetting the unit each time, tried calling Revain tech support, and even called the manufacturer's tech support. None of them. People are fixing the issue, although Revain's support for Zapphire has been fantastic. The manufacturer's tech support told me it shouldn't be compatible with my home theater system. I tested my home theater system and 5.1 works fine with DVD. So I'm sending that back as well and will continue to look for a way to extract 5.1 audio from an HDMI source. This particular device does not work as advertised. UPDATE: I called the tech team on another product and was told that none of these devices can decode 5.1 from streaming sources like Roku and Chromecast, but they work fine with other HDMI signals. So if anyone can get real 5.1 Dolby Digital (not emulated) from Roku and one of these audio extractors I'd be very interested to know how it was done. Thank you!
