I measured these pants before and after washing, more out of curiosity. I took size XL, washed it in warm water and dried it on a warm fire. Inseam before wash: 33 inches after: 30 inches (the description says 31.5 inches) waist (drawstring completely loose) before wash: 39 inches after: 37 inches. Black pants made entirely of cotton. Cotton shrinks, that's the nature of the fiber. Hot water and especially a hot dryer will shrink the most. Wash in cold water and line dry if you want them to minimize shrinkage - and remember that a warm or hot cycle is enough for shrinkage, even after multiple washes in the cold. The pants, however, are very convenient! that they have an actual drawstring waistband and not a purely decorative drawstring waistband like some I've had. I chose black on purpose because heather gray is half polyester and WILL stick together. I have two gray pairs from another manufacturer and I think I'll just throw them away. I would definitely buy them again.
