You can tuck the cord inside the hat if you don't want or need it, but I certainly would not recommend cutting it out. Colors are true to ones depicted. You just can't go wrong with this hat no matter if you are wearing jeans or a dress. The brim size is perfect. Not too big and not too small. Love it. Bought 2 already in different colors. You will look like a DIVA! Just add sunglasses (LOL). Oh.also good for"bad hair days"!
