We have a little above ground swimming pool in the middle of nowhere and since there are no neighbors I planned on not bothering with a swimsuit. But then friends come visit and things get awkward. So I gave in and bought some swim shorts so I could just randomly be out and about in cute shorts but be ready for a splash at a moment’s notice. They are not as high waisted as I would like, but I got a size larger than normal to give my belly room to bounce which turned out to not be necessary but does make them look more like shorts when you’re not actually in the water. I like the pockets. I like that the pattern (I got the teal and white stripes with the blue leaves) looks good with multiple suit tops. I like them for kayaking as well since I don’t WANT to fall into nasty river water, but sometimes these things happen and you want your clothes to dry fast.I tried a large and an xl and would have been happy with either. The size difference isn’t that noticeable. I wear my clothes pretty baggy so you should probably stick to your normal size. The liner is a little, um, conforming so be prepared for it to feel like you are wearing shorts over a normal swim suit bottom. You’ll get used to it.**end of summer edit: I'm changing my original 4 stars to 5 because I ended up LOVING these trunks.
