These speakers are very small so you would expect the bass to drop, but the mids and highs are clear enough and dominate the sound. Sound. I prefer easy listening at low volumes and strive for depth and clarity, and the mid to high range is pretty good with that (gets an A). But even with "elevator" music, the bass (no matter how thin for my listening needs) is a bit too dull, erratic - even with the bass volume cranked up. However, the ability to record individual instruments (within their functional scope) is above average. Important in today's digitized instrumental music. So you either need a subwoofer, or like me, just use them with my later purchased high-end 3-way speakers with a 15 inch woofer. (My old 3 was good in the bass range, but lacked clarity in the highs, so I think these speakers should remedy the situation.) overwhelm everything else. These speakers are very sensitive to placement and directivity. So experiment with them before you decide whether they suit your needs or not. By the way, they reproduce good sound without much distortion, so they are suitable for a large room - amazing considering their size.
