I hesitated to buy it for a long time as several reviews reported that it was unreliable. This block is just as sturdy as my old (big footprint) backdrop stand. The first set up is always a bit tricky because you don't know how everything fits together and attaches, but it's still easier to lift than my old backdrop stand and VERY PORTABLE when lifted. I was able to pick it up and bring it from the living room to the office/studio. This unit is also VERY EASY TO ADJUST AND TRANSPORT AS A COMPLETE UNIT as you don't have to remove any parts. All pieces are assembled with handles that tighten and loosen to adjust size in width and height. metal/aluminum? The rods aren't as wide as my old device (Square Perfect $39), but they are heavier and stronger. adjust to the support at the desk. This is perfect for me. The smallest maybe 5x5 and the largest 10x8? 10 feet wide, 8 feet tall, which also bothered me. I needed more width than height. You can't go wrong with this, especially for the price. Well if you want something that kids can use as monkey fences this isn't for you. I have 2 green screens and don't need sandbags.
