A screen was required to display screen settings, which almost all A/V receivers use. My shop has a stereo receiver but you really need a screen to set it up. Or view information about the USB playback capabilities. I didn't need or want a big screen to take up space. It was cheap. I plugged it into the receiver's main HDMI output and just turned it on when needed. The screen display is quite good for a 7 inch display. Fairly bright. Probably not in the sun. Comes with remote control, power adapter.
