Review on ๐Ÿ”ง ARES 70921-2-Liter Manual Brake Fluid Pressure Bleeder - Efficient and Convenient Brake Fluid Change - User-Friendly Single-Handed Manual Pump Operation by Jeremy Tyson

Get the right adapter.

I purchased and used this after taking my 2002 Honda CR-V (146,000 miles) for an airbag recall and received a brake fluid recommendation. To my knowledge, this service has never been performed and is long overdue (should be performed every two years). Dealer service cost was $162. So, in retirement and 53 years ago in high school, after taking a job at an auto repair shop, I decided to think about doing that job on my own. I already had a 2002 Honda CR-V service manual and a fairly well stocked tool kit. So here's the advice. You need an adapter to connect the bleeder to the master cylinder and the bleeder will not fit. You'll have to shell out another $38 for the CTA 7030 adapter and also a few bucks more for the thread sealant. You will need to replace the CTA male pneumatic/hydraulic fitting with the fitting found in the adapter that came with the bleed kit. They are not of the same type. The Ares tool uses something different than the fitting that comes with the CTA adapter (according to the CTA catalog Nitto quick connector). Fortunately, the threads for the two fittings are the same size and have the same thread. I used a little over two liters of replacement fluid, so buy three pints (about $4.50 a pint). I already had several hoses and a jar to collect fluid for my caliper surgery. If you don't already have one, this replacement will require you to purchase a Tygon or surgical tubing. Ares has a YouTube video showing how to use this tool. It's pretty easy. All in all, you save a few dollars overall. And you can take care of your second generation CR-V, Civic or Accord with the same brake master cylinder until old age. BTW there is a question answered by someone who claims to be a Honda repair technician who claims (or strongly suggests) that the vent comes with the correct adapter. "Not so.

Pros
  • CONSTRUCTION: This brake fluid bleeder makes it easier to fill the entire brake system with hydraulic fluid. A built-in pressure gauge allows you to closely monitor the pressure system during use.
Cons
