Review on OmniView IP 5232K KVM Switch by Chris Crisler

Revainrating 1 out of 5

This should NOT be considered ENTERPRISE KVM!

We've had one of these KVMs for about 6 months now and it only has a few major flaws that just make us uncomfortable using this product.1. The rear USB ports for keyboard/mouse are 1:1. This means if you have a typical rack mounted KMM console with a trackpad or other mouse device built into the keyboard, and your KMM has a USB port to connect to the KVM to provide your keyboard/mouse functionality, then this will KVM do this WILL NOT WORK with your KMM! You will NEVER get it to work! Belkin has confirmed in writing that this is their design and the connectors are designed for a 1:1 ratio. Most keyboards with a built-in mouse will recognize a USB hub and show multiple devices on the line. It doesn't even follow the standard USB specification so I think it's crazy! 2. KVM over IP REQUIRES INTERNET EXPLORER! This may not be a problem for some people, but since our shop is mainly based on Linux or OS X, it just sucks. They claim it will work on Linux with Firefox, but that's just not true. The plugin that Switch offers to run on Linux requires such an old version of Firefox (3.0) that no one will be running it to access this Switch. It ONLY works from IE to Windows. nothing else. This even works with the latest firmware. Apart from that it works. But for "Enterprise" or "SMB" KVM, this just doesn't do the job it needs to do. Save your money and choose a more reputable KVM company name. I may never consider a Belkin product again after this experience.
