Review on Capture the Action with the Vivitar DVR786HD-BLK Full HD Action Camera! by Ryan Brady

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Surprisingly good camera

Imagine my surprise that a sub $80 "underwater" camera works as advertised and captures relatively high quality video underwater. Stay at this setting until you are comfortable enough to open the case to change it to stills. For some, this can make a big difference. You are either in the video or in the photo and cannot switch between them underwater. The sound is also very dull due to the Lexan (or whatever). But that was to be expected. The video quality is excellent considering the price. The camera can be licked thanks to its robust housing. I jumped off a sailboat with a camera attached to my head (with an EEEKit headband) and it captured it well. Another downside is the absolutely terrible instructions. But it's pretty easy to figure out where the on/off button is and what the other button does (start/stop video). I've only had this camera for a couple of weeks and have taken a lot of shots in the surf in the Bahamas. If it doesn't last longer, it would still be worth it (an underwater housing camera that requires you to develop film is typically $21. That's 4 times more, but has more capacity on a single micro SD card). Oh, the camera does not contain a micro SD card.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Almost never
