Superb AptX LL Bluetooth transceiver plus excellent customer service

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the various Bluetooth transceiver products and what they can and cannot do and what is required to differentiate from the Advances to benefit Bluetooth technology. To clarify, there are currently three "options” for Bluetooth musical audio quality: A2DP, AptX, and AptX LL. A2DP is the Bluetooth standard used in most mobile phones, computers, wireless headphones and speakers. It's serviceable with decent sound quality but with a latency of up to ½ second. Latency isn't an issue when simply listening to music, but when watching TV it can be annoying when the bat hits the ball and the audio comes a split second later, or lip-sync is lost with the words they're hearing. say again. . AptX has been around for a while as a higher quality version of Bluetooth audio with better sound quality and lower latency, but relatively few devices support it and it still has a latency of around 1-2 tenths of a second. Better than A2DP and good enough for people not that sensitive to latency. But it's obvious and annoying when the TV sound is on (to people in the room) while someone is listening through wireless headphones. So the folks at AptX came up with AptX LL, which stands for "low latency," a fancy term for low latency. AptX LL latency can be as high as 40 milliseconds (less than half a tenth of a second) and is almost imperceptible when watching TV. However, to benefit from AptX LL you need a source that transmits it and headphones or a speaker that receives and reproduces it. This is where a lot of the negative feedback comes from in my opinion - if you don't have AptX LL on both ends you won't get any benefit from it. With few AptX LL headphones around and no TV or HiFi manufacturer adopting them yet, miniature devices like the DUO S are designed to allow the vast majority of existing audio equipment to take advantage of the technology. The Trond Duo S delivers the most advanced Bluetooth audio available and I am very happy with its performance. I bought it specifically to get satisfying wireless headphones for listening to my Sony XBR TV. When plugged into a constant power supply via the microsd connector, it connects almost immediately when I turn on the headphones (note that many TVs cut power to their USB ports when turned off, and the Trond turns off after a while to save the battery and then it needs to be turned back on and re-paired when the TV turns on again, so I'd recommend using an old phone charger to power it). I'm using the Avantree Audition Pro, one of the few headphones on the market with AptX LL built in, and the sound is great with negligible latency. The DUO S can also act as a receiver, turning any pair of ⅛" headphones into AptX LL wireless headphones, but of course you need two DUOs, one streaming from your TV or other device and the other connected to your headphones . Finally, I have to comment on Trond's customer service. It was by far the most responsive company I've done business with in the internet age. We're talking about a $40 device made in China. I wasn't expecting much when I emailed them with the question. And yet I experienced a level of communication that Apple would envy me. My emails were answered quickly and in detail by people with excellent spelling and grammar who clearly wanted my experience to be as positive as possible. Initially I had some trouble getting the LL version of AptX to work with my Avantree Audition Pros and instead of blaming another company, Trond did everything they could to investigate the issue and find solutions. So 5 stars for Trond customer service and also for DUO S.
