Saved a dead car battery

The battery in my husband's car is really hard to come by. You actually have to go through the left front wheel to get to the battery. Three years ago, in the winter frost, the battery died. It could no longer put out the amps needed for a cold start, and it wasn't getting any better. My local store quoted me a $200 charge for a battery replacement. This may not be as unreasonable as it might seem. Around the same time, I was researching household solar energy solutions and reading about the importance of batteries going through a desulphation process (physical or electronic) on a regular basis. I thought it might be too late, but I ordered this electronic desulfator from Revain. Of course it WORKS. I should have installed it under the hood forever, but I didn't, and now, three years later, I've completely forgotten about it. In the middle of winter the car battery was dead again. I connected a battery tender. a fairly expensive NOCO Genius 2-bank charger (currently $199.95 at Revain) that should have a recovery mode that desulfates the battery. Despite this expensive battery tender, the battery continued to wear out until the car wouldn't even start on warm days. I was expecting much better results from the $200 battery tender. Yesterday I finally found where this desulfurizer was hiding in the garage. I connected it to the battery terminals and charged it overnight. The next morning? The car started fine. (Remember, it wouldn't even start, on a cold day or not, no matter how long it was left on the charger.) And the car started again the same day. Last night I forgot to reconnect the battery to charge overnight but even without a new charge this morning the car started fine. The thing really works. I know it's hard to believe stories like this. You know. "Using a strange trick, I brought a dead car battery back to life!" And yet it worked. even three years after the battery was declared dead. I'm a believer and coming tomorrow morning I'll permanently install this beauty under the hood. When it comes to bringing dead lead-acid batteries back to life, this $20 box will beat the $200 high-end battery bidding.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Negative gift
