Overall good but beware of the high rating.

I bought this to replace an old camera (different model) that we were using as a baby monitor. I think this one costs about the same as the old one. This camera has a wider field of view than the previous one, which is good because although we mounted the camera high up, it couldn't see the entire crib before. You can see the whole crib here and a bit more of the room so it's an improvement. The infrared illumination is more even, which is also a good thing. Finally, this camera has a Full HD resolution, which we also like. This camera comes with a link to a software called SereneViewer. When I registered my account I noticed that it was very similar to the program I used on the old camera called MIPC. As an experiment, I entered the MIPC credentials and that worked too, so the new software is just a rebranded version. SereneViewer lets you scroll the image while zooming in, which is good, but other than that I don't see any difference. All of the above is good. Now for the bad. This camera is powered by a USB cable. That's quite long, but not long enough for the location where we installed the camera. Since it's USB, we didn't have a handy extension cable for it. I'll fix this over time, but for now the socket is hanging in the air. This camera seems to freeze frequently. When I say freeze I mean the connection is lost in the software and this can only be fixed by closing the camera view and either exiting the app or sometimes you can restore it by clicking the camera preview again. This happens with both MIPC and SereneViewer. It's not too much of a problem for us, but if you're watching something and had a camera on the screen for a long time, it wouldn't be ideal. I feel like I was tricked into buying this camera because I base my purchasing decisions heavily on customer reviews. When I received this camera there was a piece of paper in the box which was essentially to bribe people to leave good reviews here in exchange for a 32GB SD card. Overall, this camera seems pretty good, but this practice feels sloppy. I will definitely update my review if the camera breaks quickly or otherwise degrades.
