These patches can be very effective for a variety of uses, from covering the area to prevent contamination to what I use them for, ensuring that my patches for pain heal stay dry and clean. However, if the skin in the application area is not properly prepared before application, they will not adhere properly and will be useless. Unfortunately, 3M does not instruct its customers on how to properly apply these coatings. Very simply, all you have to do is thoroughly clean the entire area of skin to be coated, either with soap and water or isopropyl alcohol, which I prefer. In any case, before applying 3M Coatings, the skin must not only be thoroughly cleaned, but also COMPLETELY dried. With a few simple prep steps, these 3M patches are a great way to protect your skin from pollution or water. I had to learn it the hard way and it cost me money and a lot of frustration. Make sure you do more than just a quick clean. Alcohol works well because it evaporates quickly, making them quicker to apply after cleaning with soap and water than wiping with a towel. But either way works effectively. If you clean and dry properly, they will stay and protect your skin until you change or remove them!
