Okay, here's the scoop! I don't usually write long reviews but I really had trouble with this purchase due to the high price. I know others are wondering, so I wanted to take a close look. I bought three more cages and quickly realized that they are cruel and too small for my Syrian (chubby girl). If I had bought this cage sooner and spent the money I would have saved about $150 and a room in my barn with three empty hamster cages! This cage is BIG. This is PERFECT for a Syrian and would be even roomier for a smaller hamster like a dwarf hamster. The distance between the bars is small and perfect. I did not find all reviews about cheap broken parts. It came packaged I think and everything was well put together, just don't grab the tubes and take your time! Directions are just pictures, but you don't need a rocket scientist to get them. My son is 9 years old and he was helping me and he said to me "it's like building lego, look at the pictures before you go". Thus, a nine-year-old child can build this cage. THE ONLY COMPLAINING I HAVE is the top house and the pipes. I have attached photos of this problem for you to see. In the top house, if you use wood chips or other bedding that is not secured, they will fall down the pipe and possibly trap your hamster in the house. The shavings fall and the hamster cannot get through. I want the pipe to stick out of the house so wood chips don't fall into it. I solved this problem by using wool from my guinea pig house and making a small "rug". My hamster digs in it but it won't go through the tube and I can wash it. Problem solved. The little built in huts are neat, my girl is quite stocky but she still fits. Little hamsters will love them. You can put treats or a sand bath in it. Tray. My hamster didn't care. A sand bath can also be used but I add feed and seed mix. She climbs in like a buffet. The inserted play shelves can be removed and you can customize this cage however you like, it has so much space the possibilities are endless. The slide and stairs are smooth but my hamster can easily use them with the raised "steps" of the stairs. I like that the top of the wire is not very high, my Syrian needs space on the ground not vertical space to climb to the sky. My wire wheel hung perfectly (she pees in the plastic wheels and makes a terrible mess so I didn't use the wheel that came with it). The water bottle does not leak, the cage is strong, and everything is safe. For those who say their hamsters escaped, I'm willing to bet it was because the tube's body wasn't properly attached to the top of the wire cage and they slipped out at the bottom of the tube. Click and wiggle everything to make sure everything is secure before releasing your little critter into the cage. Good product! Look no further. Nothing so good and great in pet stores is not sold. They have to because the cages they sell are cruel! TOTALLY worth the money although it's a shame companies charge so much!
