Review on Midland X-TALKER 22 Channel FRS Walkie Talkie for Kids - Two-Way Radio, 38 Privacy Codes, NOAA Weather Alert (Multi-Color, Set of 4 Radios) by Christopher Todd

Great radio for kids (and adults) - not a toy but simplicity.

This is a great radio for kids (and adults). I bought these before camping for my 3, 5 and 7 year olds (see my herbal remedies for insanity review for that lol). I used a pair of $100 Midelan X-Talker radios to talk to them. All radios were equally good, although they cost $10 a radio and X-Talker cost $50 a radio. Of course, we didn't need a lot of extra channels and didn't check range since we were only a mile apart in the wooded area where we lived. However, it was perfect. My 5 and 7 year olds mastered them and even learned how to change channels. My 3 year old was able to speak but couldn't figure out how to release the button when he finished speaking - it's not the radio's fault so I'd say even a 3 year old can use it. I bought a toy radio. -Walkie talkies for my kids and they probably cost around $7-8 for a radio and none of them worked properly. At $10 a radio for them, why bother with frustrating toys? Get them for your adventurous kids. We now always use them for the kids when they are in the yard or when we are going somewhere and our eldest child wants to go away alone or sit in the car while I run errands. He can contact me and I can contact him. The only reason I personally use X-Talkers is because they're great for a kid, while my big hands have trouble pressing the talk button without looking every time. The talk button is on the front and I can close it with my hand so it's a really good size for kids and adults with small hands. A few tips: They are not rechargeable. They take 2 AA batteries. The batteries seem to last all day with no problems. You could probably get a battery for it too. Although I like AA batteries. You can put them on the tester, take 4 with you and know you've got a good charge with you, whereas rechargeable batteries can lose capacity over time and suddenly let you down. Another thing is getting laces. I bought the 6-Piece Bememo Universal Paracord Strap Keychains Bememo here from Revain, the loops for the strap go straight through the belt clip and the other end I attach to my belt or backpack strap (not my neck). Get them and your kids will thank you. me.
