Review on πŸ“· Black Transcend USB 3.0 Super Speed Multi-Card Reader (TS-RDF8K) for SD/SDHC/SDXC/MS/CF Cards by Troy Robinson

Great reader, wish it had a longer cord.

I bought this card reader to replace an Anker USB 3.0 card reader. I'm pretty sure that the Anker card reader actually damaged the SanDisk SD card's casing so badly that my camera couldn't register the card. To be safe, I just replaced it with this Transcend device. It works great. I only used the full size SD and microSD card slots. The transfer speed seems good enough. Cards are easy to insert and remove. A blue LED inside the case will light up to indicate it has power and is ready to read/write. The device is small and very light. In fact, I think it's too light, sometimes it slides across the desktop. It could benefit from some grippy things on the bottom or extra weight. My only notable complaint really comes from the included cable. It's USB 3.0 Type A on one end (that end is for the PC) but it's a very fancy USB 3.0 Micro B on the other end (which connects to the reader). So if you need or want a longer cable, chances are you won't have one. I'm not sure why it couldn't be the more ubiquitous USB Type-C cable, which is much more common. However, I find the cable to be short (18 inches long) and would have preferred something longer that I could plug into the back of my PC and route around my desk. Maybe someday I'll buy a replacement cable (they're inexpensive), but it would be nice if I could just use the USB-C cables I have a few of.
