Known Solutions for FoodSaver Mason Vacuum Can Seal Kit

I love my can seal kit. I seal all my spices, herbs, beans, flour, wheatberries, rice, and more in various sized (4, 8, 16, 32, and 64 oz) Mason jars. Everything that has been said here about problems with the normal oral adapter is true. It's not constructed properly. But I found a SOLUTION that has worked for me every time (so far, except for one glass that was chipped). My solution is to use a clean, WET sponge to wet the bottom ring of the jar. I post pictures of my gear. (I only had one hand free because I had to take a picture, though.) With my hand, not shown, I rotate the jar while holding the WET sponge exactly as shown (only the end of the sponge should be WET). , above this ring I try to prevent moisture from entering)). I have found that wetting the sponge before each use makes a difference. Close the jar just before the ring dries. I turn on the vacuum before I connect the hose to the adapter. So I can immediately see if it is a seal. The sound will change as the machine works harder to complete the seal. While that bottom ring was wet I had about 90% success. In cases where the sealing didn't start right away, I would take the jar and adapter and rotate the jar slightly in the adapter. This worked for me every time the jar didn't close on its own. If that doesn't work for you, you can tilt the adapter slightly. I used to have to do this until I figured out the wet ring solution. The complaint that the hose does not match the seal also applies. BUT, the hose that comes with the sealant should work. I've had several different brands and they all came with a working hose. If you bought the seal without a hose, you may be out of luck. The only hose I've seen that can be ordered separately is the FoodSaver hose, which others have said doesn't work with many sealants. I never took the hose issue as a big deal as the hoses that came with my sealants worked great. The regular mouth issue has been a big problem for me because I use 4 ounce jars to store all my condiments. A rim that worked well before the wet ring idea came up, that works better and saves all that tape and time :). With the exception of the 4 oz spice and herb jars, I'm sticking with the wide mouth adapter simply because the wide mouth adapter works great every time with no extra steps. As far as I know you can't buy 4 ounce wide mouth jars :). I keep sealer on the counter because I use it almost every day. All jars in the Spice Box display are vacuum sealed. Just make sure the bottom ring has no chips, the top of the jar is clean, and the lid is clean too.
