This set is ideal for sewing beginners. It really has everything you need to get started with fabric. The cutting mat is a good size for smaller projects. I like that one side is imperial and the other is metric. This is a nice feature as I have had to convert templates between them in the past. The same applies to the measuring tape. One side is imperial and the other has both metric and imperial! This is not only practical for measuring, but also for quick conversion. The rotary cutter works very well. It is very similar to my Olfa ergonomic cutting knife. I was able to cut through three layers of cotton like it was nothing. The 45mm blade is the most versatile size, making it perfect for this combo/starter kit. I also really like that it comes with rose and punch blades, as well as two regular spare blades. The 6.5 x 12 inch ruler is also very practical. Whoever put this set together really considered the most useful tools and sizes. I have nearly a dozen acrylic rulers of various sizes, and my 6x12 is the most commonly used. Finally, the kit comes with a set of clips. They look like wonderful regular size clips. I used them to hold together parts of a bag I was sewing and they worked just as well as the clips I already have. They have good spring action for a firm but not too firm hold. Overall, this is an excellent kit, both in terms of overall content and price. It's perfect for beginners or anyone who wants to have duplicates of their essentials, either when traveling or in multiple locations. My Olfa cutter sits on my cutting table and this cutter will now live on my table where I have my small cutting board and sewing machine. However, with a cut this beautiful, he might start spending more time at my editing table!
