Is the phone too heavy?
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and it holds the phone until you move your laptop. I think maybe the phone is a bit heavier than the clip can hold. I use the Apple Clear Mag Case on my phone. It comes with 2 clips, which is very convenient. I tried this on my HP laptop.
