I go through the shelves to clean out my locker and it works. I found many shelves but almost all of them are not flat on top. They have big holes or gaps that some of my stuff might get stuck in. Or just fail. Note that this one isn't exactly flat on top, but that's good enough for me. The assembly is very quick. Stability is at its maximum when you adjust it so that it rests against the walls of the closet. Remember this is called a SEPARATOR SHELF. It is not to be used as a separate shelf. It has magnets but they are useless unless there are metal walls. I see someone using it under their sink and while it can be used anywhere I wouldn't recommend using it that way. This shelf itself is not stable, especially when extended to its full height. Even if you use it in a locker but don't throw it against the walls, it can still wobble depending on how much weight you put on the top. I would post a photo but I was given this for work and am not allowed to take photos there :) For the price this is great value.
