I was flying from LA to Virginia for spring break and the temperature difference was going to be drastic (from 80 degrees in LA to 40 degrees in Virginia), so I needed something that would warm me keep when I visit the sites. I also don't like checking luggage and usually only take a backpack with essentials, so I needed something to compress as well. It worked great and it packed up to just over a loaf of bread. It's not bulky at all, but it kept me warm even when I was on a double-decker tour bus in rainy Philadelphia in the '30s. Not cold enough for snow, but still cold. Underneath my jeans, I wore a thin wool sweater, fleece-lined gloves, and fleece-lined tights. Don't expect it to be the only thing keeping you warm. If you are sensitive to the cold, you must dress smartly in everything. Not only has it worked well for me, it's very stylish. I'm short so I look smaller in long coats, but the tapered waist solves this fashion dilemma. I'm a fan of gray and the shade is perfect for me, not too dark and not too light. Universally neutral.
