The handle extends far enough so you can reach almost any itchy spot and then folds it up and stores it in a drawer or other convenient place. Unfortunately, this design means that the "rake" part can rotate and then you won't scratch anything. What works best for me is to extend it as much as needed. If I don't need a full expansion, I have more control over the scraping part.
