I like to walk 2-3 miles every day depending on the weather and mood. As for shoes, I usually buy Brooks Addiction Walkers which are great but pricey, but the last time I needed shoes I saved up and got Rockports at half price. Big mistake. It felt like the Rockports had NO padding at all under the forefoot - like I was barefoot! To try and salvage a bad situation I bought these Gold Toe Cushioned Socks. They helped, but I didn't realize how much until I put on other unlined socks. I thought shoes got better because they "shrunk in". But the real relief was the cushioning of the Gold Toe Socks. With other socks, the rockports have been just as terrible as when they were new. I've washed the socks 3 or 4 times (machine wash in warm water, tumble dry medium). There was no damage or shrinkage. For me, they reach to the middle of the lower leg, just like in the product photo. I take size 11 shoes and size 6-12.5 fits perfectly. They stay relatively cool and comfortable even on hot days.
