Customization is a nightmare. for parts

Where to start? Well I bought this item to fit a 2000 Yamaha Vmax and that's how it worked. First, the unit itself has a license plate bracket that conflicts with a Yamaha OEM part. If you want to use this unit fully you will need to modify the Yamaha part to accommodate it by cutting the inner metal of the rear fender to completely remove the OEM license plate bracket (I had a spare fender part so I have it done it with no problems). that's because I can flip this mod if I want to). Secondly, the purchased product does not directly fit the Yamaha mounting point (the mounting bolts do not match the Yamaha fender mounting holes). I had to fabricate an intermediate bracket out of some aluminum and in moments using a Dremel tool and a cordless drill I had the bracket. Third, the taillight wiring was too short to reach the wire harness on the bike. I had to lengthen the wire about 5-6 inches. So I did. Fourth (yes, it gets trickier) the round connectors on the taillight are too small to connect to the Yamaha wiring harness so all 5 need to be replaced with the correct size. And finally, the fifth step in installing this engineering nightmare on a motorcycle, the license plate bracket on the tail light license plate bracket pre-drilled mounting holes will not hold a United States license plate. More holes had to be drilled to fit the license plate. And the funny thing is I was assured that this taillight would fit 1st generation Yamaha Vmax 1985-2007 when in fact every aspect of this item didn't fit due to mounting bolts, wire length, barrel connector size etc. D. up to the attachment of a license plate on it. If you don't want to spend a lot more time installing this bike than planned, just skip it.
