Review on Enhance Your XF205, XF200, XA25, πŸ“· XA20 Professional Camcorder with Canon GP-E2 GPS Receiver by David Boulanger

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Unreliable location data. Portable GPS is much better for photo tagging.

Changing this rating to three stars due to inconsistencies in the recorded GPS points. Works on my Canon Rebel T5 with wired connection and hot shoe. Only works on my Canon 5D Mark iii with hot shoe. Pros: Better than nothing. The Canon 5dmkiii's directional data is useful. Battery life is better than previous reviews. I have found that I can use it during the day for a week or more at a 5 second recording rate without changing the battery. Cons: It seems like every import I've made always has a photo or two tagged all wrong. Location. I take groups of photos about every 1000 feet for work and need location data for every photo that is taken there. I checked the timestamp to make sure the photos were taken at the location this device said it was. Bulky on an already large camera. Conclusion: I switched to a Garmin handheld GPS and tracked my position while taking photos. Then I import the tracklog into Lightroom and automatically tag the photos. This method was 100% accurate and easy.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Expensive
